How it works: upload, price, print
Ordering a custom part from Q Fabrication Labs takes three steps — upload your model, see a price, and check out. Here's exactly what happens at each one.
Upload your model
We accept STL and STEP files. An STL is a mesh, ready to slice and price right away. A STEP file carries the original CAD geometry, which we review by hand. Upload whichever you have — and if you have both, an STL gets you a price faster.
See a real price
For an STL, our software slices your actual model and prices it in seconds — a real number for your real part, based on its size, the material you choose, and the print settings, instead of a per-gram estimate or a form you fill out and wait on. STEP files are reviewed and quoted by hand, so a STEP quote isn't instant. Every order has a per-order minimum of $5.00, so small parts price at that minimum.
Choose your material
You'll pick from PETG, ASA or PLA. PETG is our recommended default for most functional parts. Each material is the wrong choice for some jobs — the Materials page covers which to pick and when.
Check out, and we print it
Once you place your order, we print it on FDM hardware and prepare it for shipping. Our guarantee: we'll ship your order within 14 days of payment, or we'll email you before that date and offer a full refund. Dispatch is when your order ships; delivery time on top of that depends on the carrier and where you are.
Shipping
We ship anywhere in the United States, with tracking on every order and shipping passed through at about carrier cost with no markup.
Changing or cancelling an order
You can cancel for a full refund within 12 hours of ordering, or before we start printing — whichever comes first.
